Skill building services are designed to help individuals increase their economic self-sufficiency and/or to engage in meaningful activities in the community. Skill building can be used to help with the acquisition, or improvement in self-help, socialization and adaptive skills. When skill building assistance is being used for employee readiness, a person must have an employment related goal in their plan of service.
Additionally, skill building assistance allows for work and learning experiences that pay less than minimum wage. The premise is that individuals will gain the skills and experience necessary to find competitive community based employment. This would lead to individuals transitioning/graduating from facility based work to community based employment with the assistance of supported employment.
